Tips For Engaging Writing
There are at least as many ways to write interesting content as there are bloggers out there. While we all argue about the right way of doing things, or which universal laws every copywriter should hold close to their chest, we have distilled what we all (more or less) agree on here at Ignite.
- Be consistent with your brand. Are you tech-savvy, funny, erudite, clever, or some mixture of something else? Keeping your voice consistent builds trust and supports authenticity as you explain your industry to consumers.
- Use short(er) sentences. Folks on the internet these days don’t have the attention span they did ten years ago.
- Use varied sentence structure: Mixing up the length and structure of your sentences can help keep the reader's attention and make your writing more interesting.
- Show, don't tell: Instead of simply telling the reader what happened or how a character feels, try to show it through their actions and dialogue. This can help the reader feel more connected to the story and make it more engaging.
- Edit and revise: Don't be afraid to go back and revise your writing to make it more engaging. This may involve cutting out unnecessary words or phrases, adding descriptive language, or rearranging sentences to create a more logical flow.
Perhaps the most important tip of all is that you should have fun writing. Pick themes and concepts that entertain you and your audience is much more likely to find you entertaining. Writing about something that you clearly have no interest in translates quickly through a page and makes your readers heavy-lidded.
